Harrison VFW Newsletter September 2016

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Greetings Post Officers, VFW Members, Men’s Auxiliary, LOV-S and our many friends. September is upon us and it’s time to almost think fall is here. As I stick my head out the door, the 90+ degrees says it still summer, so I digress. We had a mechanical booboo (freezer stuff) this past month, but never fear LOV-S is here. Thank you ladies for stepping up and paying the bill, I believe it was $1600 or so – WOW big steps. The men got them a lawn mower and the grass never looked better. Apparently, the lawnmower can also connect to the International Space Station if anyone needs to make a call. I’m kidding; it is a great addition and we appreciate Dave Wendell who cuts the lawn and believe they needed what they bought. We got the big Cruise-In coming up and the ladies are going to drink wine and paint on a Sunday. I can’t make this stuff up. J I wanted to say thank you to Green Acres for the 26 Aug night cruise on the river. Dave and Sharon are big supporters of the post and we appreciate their continuous efforts to help us generate funds. GOT SOMETHING TO SAY – bring it to a meeting – we would love to hear your ideas and occasional grievances. We are still studying the Auxiliary move, but hope to have it resolved by the end of the month. Personal note: I lost my grandfather, James P. Jones, Army Tech Grade 5, Northern Solomon Islands – WWII, passing Aug 16, 2016. He was 92. We celebrated his life and the Army and the VFW, Post 1170, Middletown, KY gave him honors at graveside. I know we have many post members who do those honors local. I cannot say enough about the respect and admiration I have for you who do this final sendoff; hats off to you.  Onward and upward – Thanks,

Michael W. Jones, Commander

QUARTERMASTER

As we continue to grow here at Post 7570, we have made some improvements; but we have many more in mind. We recently updated our Event Center along with new heating and air units.  But there still are a lot for us to do.  We are in the process of trying to raise $150,000 to make major repairs and keep our Post around for many years to come.  Plus, don’t forget all donations are tax deductible.

God Bless America

Regina Graichen, Quartermaster

POST HELPING VETERANS & AREA NEEDY

The Post has helped in August: 27 Veterans and families with VA assistance, driving to Veterans facilities and assisting with paper work and finances. People helped thru Charitable Events using the Canteen, Event Center. Every Thursday at noon AA meets here. We have given out over $4,475.75 for our veteran members, local area needy, etc. This was a slow month and that’s what we are here for – to help! Post needs your help to step up and get active a few hrs. a month! Need painters for the Event Center!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Many improvements and clean up and painted, can use your help anytime.  Volunteers needed to help with the September 17th Cruise-In.  Need sponsors, door prizes and planning for this big day.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you want your newsletter mailed, please leave your address with a bartender at the Post.  Otherwise, the newsletter is being e-mailed only.  Extra copies are at the Post for you to pick up.
