Harrison VFW Newsletter July 2016

COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Greetings Post Officers, VFW Members, Auxiliary, LOV-S and our many friends. Let me first say how much of a privilege it is to be your new commander. Hats off to Bob and the gang for handing off a great organization that is prepared for future endeavors. What a great celebration we had on 11 Jun and I must thanks LOV-S for going above and beyond in their support. We aspire to be an organization that understands what its members want and how to continue to serve the community. We all know the club is our biggest source of revenue, so I will be taking a close look at how we do things, so we can continue to turn that success into support for veterans and the community. I’m not looking to change things just because we can. We all have great ideas and I want you to tell me what you think might work. I don’t subscribe to the, “we always done it this way” philosophy. If that was the case, we still would fight with muskets and telephones would still be rotary. The executive board meeting is being separated from the VFW member meeting with hopes to encourage more transparency and sharing of ideas. Both the Auxiliary and LOV-S are invited to have as many representatives they care to have there. I hope to have the leaders at these E-board meetings, so we truly have an executive board. Anyone and I mean anyone, can attend an E-board meeting to be heard. We will reserve the first few minutes for non-members to come express concerns and ideas. This is where folks should come and tell us what we are doing wrong, not through the rumor mill. We have a great post and I speak from experience, traveling 27 states and visiting VFWs as part of my profession. This is your post and you should value it. I’m just the guy holding the wheel, where we go and how we get there is up to all of you. I thank everyone who continues to volunteer. I realize there is a core group keeping this post afloat and value your commitment. Pray for our troops, post and country. LOOK for the new meeting times.

Thanks – Michael W. Jones, Commander
