Harrison VFW Newsletter February 2017

Howdy Comrades, LOV-S, Men and friends of VFW Post 7570. I would like to thank the Men for their donation to get the insulation in the event center at a cost of $4,700.

It’s a new year and we are trying our best to put together programs and events to help support the community, raise awareness around veteran issues and bring more people to the post. We have a MUDRUN/Senior Walk in planning, golf event, gun event and many more. We need help to make these things happen. Please reach out to the QM for details. In April we will seek nominations for officers of the VFW. If you don’t speak up, then speak not when we nominate someone you don’t like. May will be the time to vote the new officers in. We welcome anyone who wants to hold office. The post is looking sharp and we have the ability to have a banner year. Get involved. We are also planning to do a membership drive in the very near, but a little warmer future. We will need people to go out and represent the post. If someone new comes in, please make them feel welcomed. If we run someone off, they will not likely return. Finally, the fish frys are just around the corner. This is a big event and we will NEED HELP. Lord willing I will be down there to learn how to fry. As I type this, I’m 12 hours from flying to Montana. Life is always fast it seems. God Bless you all and many thanks to all who continue to make the post go. Hippo – you are the glue my brother.

Michael W. Jones, Commander

THANK YOU CARE PACKAGES: Tyler Jackson wrote: Thank you so much for the care packages.  It was all the right things.  My Marines loved it all and we especially loved the pictures from the kids, they always make us laugh and also remind us of when we were young’ins.  I miss you guys and can’t wait to be back next month.  Please tell everyone at the VFW and all the children involved in making all of the beautiful gifts happen that we appreciate them and the time and effort they put into it.  It’s the things we love and that also keep us going.

The Post has helped in January: 112 Veterans and families with VA assistance, driving to Veterans facilities and assisting with paper work and finances. People helped thru Charitable Events using the Canteen, Event Center. Every Thursday at noon AA meets here. We have given out over $4,800.00 for our veteran members, local area needy, etc. It was a slow month and that’s what we are here for – to help! Post needs your help to step up and get active a few hrs. Each month!

Always looking for volunteers to help with the maintenance of our Post.

We have installed new toilets in all the restrooms, need volunteers to help paint and clean the restrooms.

March 3rd Fish Fry Dinners start, please contact Bev or Hippo if you can volunteer.

Would you like to help by washing the aprons each week? Let Bev know.

Volunteers for 4 monthly Cruise-In’s coming up May 13th, June 24th July 29th & Aug. 19th this summer. The 9th Annual Cruise (fund raiser for Troops) is September 16th. Please sign up and HELP! Bill Floyd is back to help with events and improve our post!

PLEASE NOTE:  If you want your newsletter mailed, please leave your address with a bartender at the Post.  Otherwise, the newsletter is being e-mailed only.  Extra copies are at the Post for you to pick up.
